About us
The LocaT Project is a collaborative initiative started in 2020 that aims at identifying and promoting climate-friendly methods for the delivery of TV content ( live & on-demand).
2021, Release of LoCaT Original, the founding study
In 2021, a consortium of five major European TV players commissioned the initial LoCaT study (“ LoCaT Original”) which assessed the energy and carbon impacts of the delivery of TV content across Europe across terrestrial networks (DTT, OTT and IPTV).

The LoCaT original study was executed by Carnstone, a global leader in providing sustainability and ESG advice and support to large companies and international institutions (now part of the SLR Group).

2025, LoCaT Sat to also cover satellite
In 2025, a consortium of six global satellite players commissioned an extension of LoCaT Original (“LoCaT Sat”) to also assess the impacts associated to the delivery of TV programs via satellite in Europe and also in North America and Latin America.

The LoCaT Sat study was conducted by Carbone4, the first independent consultancy specialized in low carbon strategy and adaptation to climate change, adopting an attributional life-cycle assessment (LCA) approach, consistent with the one used in the LoCaT Original study of 2021.

The LoCaT Project has been nominated
for the NAB Sustainability Awards
